PLANNING FORUM

    It is a platform to educate the college students on economic planning of the country and other related issues. Initially it was introduced for the students of Economics & Commerce but now it is open for all college students. It is supervised by the Department of Economics. As a part of the curriculum 'The Planning Forum' functions under the Economics Department. The foundation for this forum was laid in the year 2015. The Planning forum of the Department of Economics was formally inaugurated by Dr.Suresh kumar, Former Principal on 17th January 2015.Planning Forum consist of one Convenor, two members and 20 students from different departments. Planning Forum aims to create a dialogue and discussion on various topics ranging from finance, economics and governance within the country to stimulate the minds of the students and promote better understanding of various issues among them. The Forum conducts Debates, Quiz competition, Essay competition and Survey etc.on a regular basis

OBJECTIVES OF THE FORUM
The Planning Forum of our college conducts various activities with the following objectives

• To encourage students to exchange ideas on socio-economic issues
• To develop better understanding of their immediate surroundings
• To update themselves with the latest developments on policy changes

PRACTICES OF THE PLANNING FORUM
Students are motivated by various seminars on current topics, quiz competitions, economic surveys and preparation of manuscript. The following are the regular practices of the planning Forum.

EVENTS CONDUCTED
The Planning forum organized a wide spectrum of activities.
1. Just a minute competition: The competition saw participants display their presence of mind, wit and creative thinking on a wide range of topics.
2. Elocution Competition – Topics are generally given on latest economic growth and development to update themselves with current economic policies, issues, implementation and implications.
3. Economic Quiz and Cross Word Puzzle – Forum conducts these events to acquaint students with basic economic concepts and terms, as a part of our objective to develop better understanding of their surrounding
4. Online essay writing competition -   In the month of January an online essay writing competition was conducted for the degree students. Students were asked  to submit their thoughts via email on  topics like Unemployment and Growing Population and Economics  of  COVID 19.
5. The planning forum organized an online Career Orientation Program for the students to explore to academic   and non academic activities and also to create an awareness of career options to the students of economics on 04/02/2021. Dr. K P VIPINCHANDRAN (Assistant professor, Department of Economics, Krishna Menon Memorial Government Womens’ College, Kannur) was the speaker of our program. 
6.  On February 6th 2021 our department conducted a virtual discussion for the students on the  topic “Impact of COVID- 19 in Kerala Economy”. Through the discussion our teachers provide information about various dimensions and impact of COVID-19 on Kerala Economy.
7. Under the auspices of planning forum, an online debate conducted on 14th February 2021 , the topic was “ EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE TEACHING : ITS MERITS AND DEMERITS”.

Socio-Economic Surveys (2020-21)
The Planning Forum of the department conducted the following Surveys through online,

• Malnutrition among adolescent girls in Kollam.
• Working of PDS in Punalur.
