Dr. Shiny Mathews

     Sree Narayana College, Punalur, established in 1965 is a leading educational institution under the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. The institution owes its inception to the farsightedness of the great leader, Sri R. Shankar, and is ingrained in the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, a great visionary who revolutionized the social scenario of Kerala. It is a great honour for me, to steer such a prestigious educational institution.

     The biggest challenge ahead of us today is to make the students competent to face the challenges of the globalized world that continually demands new knowledge and skills. They should possess a global outlook and perspective while maintaining respect for their tradition and culture. For this, they should develop self-confidence, good communication skills, pleasing manners, humanity and moral standards. They should be in par with the global standards of the employment needs. Our team of qualified and experienced teachers provide personalized attention to every student, preparing them to be good human beings, create empathy to fellow beings and love for nature among them.

     The students stand to gain an all-round education and achieve their potential not just in the academic field but also in the field of sports and creative arts. The college has made outstanding achievements in field of sports, at the state and national levels. The college has scaled new heights with excellent training for our children in a range of co-curricular activities. The activities organized by the departments and the various clubs functioning in the college help to channelize the vibrant energy of the students in a positive direction, empowering them with organisation skills, leadership qualities and team-spirit.

     The college has 12 B and 2(f) recognition from the UGC and is affiliated to the University of Kerala. The accreditation by the NAAC for the second cycle and the launching of DST-FIST programme is the solid evidence for overall development into an institutional stature providing quality education. The departments conduct UGC-sponsored seminars, national and state seminars. Our teachers have won Major and Minor Research Projects. Our students have been toppers in the University examinations. The various seminars organised by several departments exposed our students to the latest academic developments and career prospects in their fields of study, and also enabled the teaching faculty of the college to interact with the peers and experts in different disciplines. Such academic activities are of paramount importance today, especially in the light of the recent innovations implemented by the UGC in its latest regulations. With such major changes set to revamp our higher education sector, we consider it our duty to provide the very best of all to our students.

     Our college has 8 UG programmes in CBCS system and 4 PG programmes in semester system. The college council, IQAC and CLMC are responsible committees managing the disposal and enrichment of the curriculum. The college offers statutory committees to adhere the rules of the students, especially girls. Sree Narayana Guru awakened the dormant backward communities and inspired them to achieve social upliftment through education. We will keep forging ahead, upholding Guru’s vision and ideals, strengthening the society by imparting quality education and shaping our students to become better citizens of tomorrow.
